Sizing & Brands

Compression sizing varies significantly between brands. Please read this page carefully before purchasing.

⚠️  Getting the right fit is essential

Compression garments for lipoedema must fit correctly to be effective and comfortable. An ill-fitting garment can be uncomfortable or even harmful. We strongly recommend getting professionally measured before purchasing any compression garment — new or pre-owned. Specialist oedema practitioners recommend using the lowest compression class that works for you (normally compression class 1 or 2, or support garments). If you are between sizes, pick the larger size. Remember: compression should never be painful.

Why compression sizing is complicated

Unlike everyday clothing, compression garments don't use universal sizes. A "size 2" or "Medium" from one brand may fit very differently from the same 'size' on another brand's garment. Sizing depends on:

  • Circumference measurements at multiple points on the limb

  • Limb length

  • Compression class — higher compression class garments are smaller and exert more pressure, so a Medium in class 2 will be smaller than a Medium in class 1. This means the same labelled size can fit very differently depending on the class.

  • Each brand's own size chart, which is not standardised across manufacturers

This is why we display the full label information for every garment in our shop, and why we ask all buyers to check the brand's own size chart before purchasing. Unfortunately, we cannot link directly to brand size charts or measuring guidance for legal reasons.

How to get measured

Please get measured by a trained professional such as a lymphoedema specialist or an MLD (Manual Lymphatic Drainage) therapist. They will:

  • Take accurate measurements at the correct points on your limb

  • Give you a copy of your measurements to keep if you request them

  • Advise on the compression class suitable for your needs

Once you have your measurements, use them alongside the brand's size chart to check whether a garment listed in our shop is the right fit for you.
